History
The Green Hill Farms plantation was established here in the 17th century by the Welsh Quaker, Thomas Lloyd. In the early 1900s, the land was subdivided and developed. Most of the homes in Penn Wynne were built before 1950, which lends character to the area.
The borders of Penn Wynne, in respect to the Penn Wynne Civic Association are:
- The Delaware County Line to the west, Remington Road to the north, Lancaster Avenue to the east and City Avenue to the south.
There has been discussion about expanding the northern border to Wynnewood Avenue, which would reflect the "1st Alarm" borders of the Penn Wynne Hills Fire Company.
Politically, Penn Wynne is the 14th Ward in Lower Merion Township, divided into 3 precincts:
- The first precinct is bordered by Manoa Road on the east, Haverford Township on the south, Haverford Road on the north, and the area of Glen Arbor and Brinton Park Drives to the west.
- The second precinct is bordered by Haverford Road on the south, City Avenue on the east, Lankenau property on the north, and sections of Morris Road and Remington Road on the west.
- The third precinct is bordered by Manoa Road on the west, Haverford Township on the south, City Avenue on the east, and Haverford Road on the north.
